Upgrade Training

CASA Drone Licence Upgrade Training for your Remote Pilot Licence.

Our courses are approved and authorised by CASA as per the new Part 1010 MOS. These new courses cover the requirements for chief and remote pilots operating under an ReOC, and the new sub 2kg commercial planning and record keeping.

New Part 101 MOS courses were only authorised and issued from 15 June 2020. Check on CASA's certified training providers reflecting our transition to the new Part 101 MOS on 23 June 2020. We strongly recommend you measure your training against the new MOS sections that apply to you for your type and existing qualifications.

These new courses cover the new requirements for chief and remote pilots operating under an ReOC, and the new sub 2kg commercial planning and record keeping.In addition, our training includes tethered operations for operations within 3nm of airports as per the new Part101 MOS.

The Upgrade (Operation) Training is for:

  • current PPL, CPL or ATPL pilots wanting to obtain their Remote Pilot Licence in the under 7kg or under 25kg weight class.

  • or current Remote Pilot Licence holders who wish to upgrade to the under 25kg weight class for the same type of craft as per their Licence.  This includes multirotors, fixed wing and helicopter.

  • or for current Remote Pilot Licence holders who wish to add a different type of craft to their existing Licence.  This includes multirotors, fixed wing, powered lift and helicopter. Note that your initial licence must have been issued after 10 April 2017.  If not, you will be required to prove recency and / or complete the full RePL course for the new type.

If you already hold a UAV Controller Certificate or Remote Pilot Licence, and you complete our CASA approved Operation Training, then we will submit details of your experience gained to CASA using Form 101-05. 

If you have a manned aviation licence, then you will receive your initial licence only after you submit details of your experience gained (our Operation Training Certificate and Logbook)) to CASA using Form 101-01, and you will be required to pay your CASA fee (approx $160) for the initial issuing of the licence.

Upgrade Training is conducted in the week of our RePL drone training courses at our CASA approved venues only.
