Why do I need this Drone Mapping course?:
If you are wanting to use your drone for mapping, asset inspection, and 3D modelling, then this course covers the practical operations and post-processing of your drone mapping images using WebODM and QGIS.
How long is the course?
The drone mapping course runs from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm on day one.
This enables you to complete the introduction theory, practical mapping, modelling, and asset inspection, and then upload the images for processing overnight before the second day.
The second day also runs from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm and covers all the analysis / post-processing and outputs. There is also an opportunity to fly another mission or two if needed.
As we expect you to know how to operate commercially, you will need to hold a RePL and AROC as a minimum. If you don’t have a drone pilot licence or ReOC, we can assist you with a discounted bundle.
When does the course run?
During the weeks of our RePL training in your location, or on custom dates for groups.
What do I need or to bring to attend this course?:
- Proof of RePL and AROC, and either sub 2kg commercial registration or ReOC
- A minimum of 5 hours flying experience
- Your sub 7kg drone, compatible with Pix4Dcapture and ODM (all free software) for drone mapping
- Sufficient charged batteries for 4 flights.
- Your mobile device (Android or iOS) compatible as a screen for your drone and able to run the drones software and Pix4Dcapture.
- Pix4Dcapture downloaded and installed on your mobile device (screen).

- Post-processing and 2D / 3D outputs using WebODM / QGIS
- Orthomosaics - Georeferenced, orthorectified maps
- Elevation Models - Easily generate georeferenced DSMs/DTMs
- Measurements - Volume and area measurements
- Contours - Preview and export elevation contours to AutoCAD, ShapeFile, GeoPackage
