If you are wanting to use your drone for mapping, asset inspection, and 3D modelling, then this online course covers the theory of operations and post-processing of your drone mapping images using WebODM and QGIS.
How long is the course?
The online drone mapping course runs over two 3 hour sessions over 2 days, with practical assignments in between the sessions.
This enables you to complete the theory, mapping exercises, and 3D modelling.
When does the course run?
The course runs on agreed custom dates for students / groups.
What do I need to attend this course?:
- Your laptop or PC. We cover worked examples in the course, but it is recommended you install WebODM at least on your computer to get max benefit from the course.
- Zoom installed on your PC with a Mic and Headset. No video camera needed.

- Setting up your drone for optimum drone mapping
- Camera Settings
- Image formats
- Your PC and post-processing software requirements
- Pix4DCapture and WebODM overview
- Discussion of Mapping in the field using Pix4Dcapure - 2D, 3D and structural
- Post-processing and 2D / 3D outputs using WebODM / QGIS
- Orthomosaics - Georeferenced, orthorectified maps
- Elevation Models - Easily generate georeferenced DSMs/DTMs
- Measurements - Volume and area measurements
- Contours - Preview and export elevation contours to AutoCAD, ShapeFile, GeoPackage
- Ground Control Points - When and how to use GCPs for additional accuracy
- 3D Models - 3D models and point clouds in a variety of formats.
- Point Clouds and export formats
- 3D Rendering and Textures
- Creating fly-throughs
- Export - High-resolution GeoTIFF, PNG, LAS, OBJ formats to name a few
- Exporting to QGIS
- Exporting to web and 3D printer
